What they are: Firm Ground boots are the absolute standard and the most popular type of football boot on the market. They are designed specifically for natural grass pitches that are well-maintained, firm underfoot, and dry or only slightly damp.
The Outsole Design: The bottom of an FG boot features fixed, molded plastic or hard rubber studs. These studs come in various shapes:
Bladed studs: Shaped like small shovels or lines, designed to slice into the ground for maximum straight-line speed.
Conical studs: Round and circular, designed to let you pivot and turn smoothly without your foot getting stuck in the sod.
Arrowhead / Triangular studs: Engineered for aggressive acceleration and sudden stops.
Why choosing the right ground matters: The stud length is medium-to-long. This gives you perfect weight distribution and excellent grip on natural grass. However, you should never wear FG boots on artificial grass (AG). Because artificial turf has a concrete or hard gravel base under the plastic grass blades, FG studs cannot penetrate the surface. This causes you to sit precariously on top of the turf, drastically increasing the risk of rolling your ankle or tearing a knee ligament (like the ACL). It also causes the studs to wear down rapidly or snap off.
